Types of Pelvic Organ Prolapse Pelvic organ prolapse is classified based on which organ is affected: Bladder Prolapse (Cystocele) The bladder presses into the front wall of the vagina. This is the most common type and is often associated with urinary symptoms. Uterine Prolapse The uterus descends into the vaginal canal due to weakened support structures. Rectocele The rectum bulges into the back wall of the vagina, commonly linked with bowel emptying difficulties. Vaginal Vault Prolapse Occurs in women who have had a hysterectomy, when the top of the vagina loses support.
